Family Legacy

Traditional Roots with an Innovative Edge

Beall's Nursery and Landscaping is proud to be in its third generation.

AL In the 1940s there was a group of brothers in Wilkinsburg, PA that started a produce business. Morris "Al" Kubrick was one of the brothers who had a dream to start a business. After several years, Al and several of his brothers moved their business to Monroeville, PA. Their business started in a single location across from the Miracle Mile Shopping Center. In the early 1970s, they grew into a second location behind the Monroeville Mall. That is where Al spent most of his time. Al was the leader of the pack who ran the day-to-day operations. He also diversified the business, adding landscaping.

Al's work came second to his family. With his wife Ann they had three daughters, Marsha, Mary Beth, and Diane. Marsha, at 16 years old, started to date a young man from Plum, named Jim Beall. They would eventually marry. Jim worked for Al at their garden center and on the landscape crew. That is when Jim found a new interest for the green industry. Jim worked for the family business throughout high school and college. After college, Jim was a sales representative for lawn and garden centers across western PA and he never lost his interest in the landscape business. After working his day job, he found time to continue his passion of landscaping. While working two jobs for many years, Jim knew one day he would open his own nursery and landscape business.

In 1988, Jim and his wife Marsha and two sons, Jim, Jr. and Justin moved into a new home, built on seven acres in Plum Borough. Jim's father "Bob" Beall sold Jim the property. The property was across from Bob's home and small business. Coincidentally, Jim's father was in the bulk supply business.

When Jim purchased the property from his father he told him "one day that's where I am going to build my business". The following year Jim and his two sons started selling cut Christmas trees. For six years Jim worked two jobs, and in Decembers, added his third job selling Christmas trees.

In 1994, Beall's Nursery was created. Jim's dad had retired that year and Jim moved his father's bulk supply, combining it with his nursery and landscape business.

Justin and Jim Jr. are proud to be part of the family business, rooted in the east suburbs of Pittsburgh for over 70 years.
